The book is a collection of candid journal entries of a young Jewish girl in her early teens who was forced into hiding along with her family and some others during the German occupation of the Netherlands between 1942 and 1944. The book was first published in 1947 by Anne Frank's father, about two years after she had died in a concentration camp.
